Red-throated loon on nest with eggs is perfectly reflected in a tundra pond. This image was taken in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
In Alaska and the Canadian Arctic, the red-throated loon is not only the smallest but also the most numerous loon species. It is the most widely distributed loon, ranging throughout Northern Eurasia and the tundra covered areas of North America. Unlike other loons, the red-throated loon has a habit of feeding away from its nesting territory, nesting in colonies and putting on unique aerial displays during the breeding season.
