While photographing this wolf, he paused for a drink near the Toklat River in Denali National Park.

It is a perfect illustration of natural camouflage.

For me this image presents the wolf as a symbol of the 'whole of nature', the unspoiled wilderness. The fresh flowing stream connects the wolf to the very essence of all life - water.

What is man without the beasts?
If all the beasts were gone,
Men would die of great loneliness of spirit,
For whatever happens to the beasts also happens to man.
All things are connected.
Whatever befalls the earth, befalls the children of earth.
