"UNSEEN PRESENCE"

$265.00

Edition of 950 Size 20" x 24" unframed

While photographing this wolf, he paused for a drink near the Toklat River in Denali National Park.

It is a perfect illustration of natural camouflage.

For me this image presents the wolf as a symbol of the 'whole of nature', the unspoiled wilderness. The fresh flowing stream connects the wolf to the very essence of all life - water.

What is man without the beasts?
If all the beasts were gone,
Men would die of great loneliness of spirit,
For whatever happens to the beasts also happens to man.
All things are connected.
Whatever befalls the earth, befalls the children of earth.

"AUTUMN PASSAGE"

$265.00

Edition of 950 Size 20" x 24" unframed

Four bull caribou migrate through the autumn tundra near Wonder Lake in Denali National Park. Fall comes early in Alaska. I composed this shot in late August when the tundra's miniature forest of dwarf birch and willow turns a brilliant red and yellow. Tucked up against a hillside from view - my wife and I sat quietly for the better part of an afternoon waiting for these four caribou to approach. Our patience was rewarded.

"A LIVING DALL"

$265.00

Edition of 950 Size 20" x 24" unframed

A dall sheep ewe and lamb on a lichen covered cliff in Denali National Park. Throughout my career I have worked hard to obtain images of young animals with their mothers and this shot is one of my favorites. I love the way the lamb perfectly mimics the stance of its mother. You are left with the feeling that this baby will someday grow up to be just like mom.

"TOKLAT"

$215.00

Edition of 950 Size 16" x 20"

A grey wolf stands in a brilliant patch of autumn colored tundra in Denali National Park. Photo opportunities with wild wolves are extremely rare as they are wary of humans. Imagine my delight when I saw this magnificent wolf perfectly posed in front of my camera lens. I held my breath and shot two frames - then he was gone! I listened to the distant roar of the Toklat River as the image etched itself into my memory forever.

A snowshoe hare begins the color phase change from summer brown to winter white. I found this snowshoe hare in mid-October near Denali National Park. It was hiding behind a snow-covered log, feeding on willow branches. In this pictue the bunny is munching away on a freshly snapped twig.

Edition of 950 Size 16" x 24" unframed

The mountains between the East Fork and Toklat Rivers, in Denali National Park, are prime habitat for the dall sheep that I was looking for on that fine August day. So discovering this handsome bull caribou halfway up the mountainside was a little unusual. Most likely he had scaled the steep slopes in an effort to avoid the hordes of flies that torment caribou in summer.

This image is one of my personal favorites. I love the soft texture of the antlers, still covered in velvet, with the pastel colors and convergent lines of the mountain ridges that frame them.

"ROMANCING THE DAWN"

$265.00

Edition of 950 Size 17" x 24" unframed

As I pulled up to Denali National Park Headquarters in the pre-dawn chill of mid-September, I saw my friend Gary eagerly awaiting me. "It's a perfect morning," he exclaimed excitedly. Gary was Denali Park's Chief Ranger and an avid amateur photographer. The mating season for moose had just started and the associated interaction often provided excellent opportunities to photograph moose behavior.

It wasn't long before we spotted a large bull moose defending a harem of more than a dozen females. Wasting no time, we grabbed our cameras and bushwhacked thru the brush three-quarters of a mile. We set up our tripods just as the morning light turned the bull's enormous antlers into beacons of gold. To our delight, a young female approached the bull and they began to nuzzle. Minutes later, it was over and they were gone. "Did you get that?" Gary asked in a whisper. "Absolutely" I said, "it just doesn't get any better than that!"

A tough climb up Igloo Mountain in Denali National Park was rewarded with a wonderful afternoon observing and photographing a band of Dall sheep ewes and lambs. Dall sheep are white year round and young lambs are in constant motion - running, jumping, butting heads and at times testing their agility and balance on top of their moms. Some moms tolerate this behavior better than others.
